Winchester City 6 - 1 Marlow FC

on Thu 20 Aug

City strolled to another impressive win at the Denplan Stadium on Wednesday 19th August 2015 but nearly sacrificed the match two minutes from time when the floodlights went out. The Referee, sensibly, gave the Club a few minutes to rectify the fault, and thankfully the lights fired up to give enough light to complete the match. At the after match meeting he confirmed that he would have abandoned the match should the lights not have worked and a replay would have been ordered.

The match was played in pouring rain throughout but it only took City ten minutes to break down the Marlow defence. Taz Roberts put in a run down the flank and cut into the box and curved a shot round the advancing 'keeper, Dave Lyons.

A similar move in the 32nd minute saw Geoff Dunn work his way out wide and cross for Zach Glasspool to out-jump the defence and glance in a peach of a header for City's second goal.

Glasspool repaid Dunn a few minutes later but on this occasion Dunn's shot went wide.

In the 34th minute City went three-up when George Short bundled in a free kick with no-one being sure with what part his body he diverted the ball!

City just about secured the points in the 42nd minute when Glasspool turned in the box and lashed the ball home from close range.

Marlow came out on the attack in the second half and Brendon Norris pulled off a good save but City settled and soon began to dominate again.

Manager Paul Masters made a change in the 62nd minute when Jamie Barron came off to be replaced by Micky Hubbard. A few minutes later Short had a chance to score from a free kick but he put a relatively easy chance wide.

From a corner Rob Flooks popped up to poke the ball past the 'keeper for number five. With the points in the bag the Manager made two more changes, Adam Tomasso for Roberts and Matt Benham for Glasspool.

While City where re-arranging their line-up Marlow took advantage of a mix-up in defence to score an easy goal through Sam Bangura (79th)

City came back again in the 83rd minute when Dunn split the defence and Tomasso running in well, headed into an empty net.
