Winchester City 5 - 1 Follands Sports

on Thu 24 Sep

City strolled into the second round of the Hampshire Senior Cup at the Denplan Stadium on Wednesday 23rd September 2015 against a Folland Sports side that did not offer much of a threat.

Fielding a side of squad players and reserves, City were on the attack from the start. Dan Cann put a header over the bar in the first minute as City showed their intent.

It was Cann again who went close when 'keeper Pat Williams saved with his feet only for the ball to rebound to Zac Glasspool but again Williams saved a goal-bound shot with his feet.

The break came in the 23rd minute when Rob Flooks missed a header but the ball appeared to come off his body into the net. Folland's appealed for hand ball but neither the Referee or his Assistant thought their was an infringement.

Glasspool, who had taken a knock came, off in the 27th minute to be replaced by Warren Bentley and he soon got into the action with a delightful flick across the line to put City two-up.

Bentley nearly set up goal number three when he created space in the box to lay on a chance for Adam Roberts but his shot was over the bar.

Manager Paul Masters made another change at the start of the second half replacing Roberts by Harrison Fay. Like the first half it was all City with Follands defending desperately and Williams pulling off at least another five good save from goal bound shots.

Jamie Barron came on for Micky Hubbard in the 58th minute as the Manager rested players for a tough F.A.Cup match on Saturday.

Bentley sealed the cup tie in the 59th minute with a dazzling solo run into the box, beating two defenders before rolling the ball over the line from close range.

In the next attack Bentley looked to have scored but again their 'keeper saved the Visitors' 'keeper with a great one-handed save.

Goal number four came from a corner by Cann headed home by Flooks (61st) and City went further ahead in the 68th when Fay crossed for Barron to score from close range. Flooks could have completed his hat trick but again the 'keeper made a good save.

With the game almost over Follands scored a consolation goal in controversial circumstances. Michael Dark prodded home with City's keeper Brendon Norris off his line claiming the shot came from a rolling ball free kick which the Referee missed.

Just before time City rattled the Folland's bar.
