Winchester City 3 - 1 AFC Totton
The eagerly awaited local derby against A.F.C. Totton took place on the August Bank Holiday Monday 2015 with City coming out on top in a game which started with confidence and ended with a touch of anxiety when the visitors pulled a goal back.
Winchester started well and took the lead in the 8th minute when Warren Bentley jinxed into the box and rounded 'keeper Steve Mowthorpe to finish brilliantly.
The goal set City up to apply the pressure and Adam Tomasso flashed a shot just wide from a cross.
A cross from the right by Tazz Roberts found Dan Cann on the left and he put in another cross which Totton's Marc Diaper diverted into his own net to double City's lead in the 16th minute.
City now dominated the play and Bentley turned in the box which brought a good save from the 'keeper and just before half time a three-man move resulted in Jaimie Barron putting his shot just the wrong side of the post.
Totton had a much better second half but it was City, who had the first chance to score when Leigh Mills controlled the ball well before shooting but his shot was well saved.
City went three-up in the 62nd minute when Bentley picked up the ball in midfield and advanced on goal. Totton's Liam Hibberd tried to disrupt his run but Bentley calmly beat him twice before scoring from close range.
It took Totton about five minutes before they clawed their way back into the game. A corner on the right was flighted in by Jake Rawkins and headed home at the post by Jack Simpson. The goal shook City and for a period, the intensity of their play dropped off. This allowed Totton to have their best period, Williams put a header over the bar and Sherbourne headed a cross wide
To right matters Manager Paul Masters made a couple of changes, Cann was replaced by Geoff Dun (70th minute) and Barron came off to be replaced by Micky Hubbard (72nd).
Another change was made in the 84th minute when Roberts was replaced by Matt Benham. There was time, however for both sides to score again, City forced Mowthorpe into a save which saw the ball pushed onto the bar and then cleared and at the other end Brendon Norris came off his line but failed to collect the ball but luckily his defence saved him with a long upfield boot.
