Winchester City 2 - 1 Wimborne Town
Wimborne Town came to the Denplan on Wednesday 2nd December 2015 with a game plan of blanket defence but hit on the break and it nearly gave them a point. City could have been three-up by half time but they were not and faced a lot of work in the second to secure the win.
City's lineup featured two returning ex-players on the bench, Dominic Cope and Charlie Smeeton.
Winchester started on the attack and Jaimie Barron had a good shot saved and in the next raid it looked as if they had taken the lead a powerful header from Rob Flooks beat the 'keeper but was hacked off the line.
Still City kept coming forward and some good work by Warren Bentley saw him create a chance which he put wide and then he created space in the box and beat the 'keeper but this shot was also kicked off the line.
Zack Glasspool made his first opportunity, beating a defender on the edge of the box but as he shaped to shoot he lost the ball.
Although Wimborne did not show much in front of goal, they fought hard and Jake Newton and Adam Tomasso at the back and Jaimie Thoroughgood, in the midfield in particular, all had storming games.
Just before half time it looked as if the breakthrough had come when a corner was knocked back to Bentley and he shot from near range only for the 'keeper to made a great one-handed save on the goal line. He made another brilliant save early in the second from a Flooks' header.
As the second half progressed City gained control of midfield, crowding Wimborne out and as a consequence the striker were given more room, with Lewis Fennemore and Tazz Roberts roaming deep creating for Glasspool, Benham and Bentley.
In the 70th minute Manager Paul Masters brought on Harlin Basker for Glasspool and soon after the breakthrough came when Benham advanced, spotted the 'keeper a little way off his line and curled a beautiful shot into the net (70th).
A touch-on by Barron set up Bentley in the 80th minute who had run into space behind the defence and stroked the ball home.
Smeeton came on for Roberts in the 89th minute as City sought to play out the game but they were caught by a break and Waters scored in the first minute of injury time.
The game was not over, however and Wimborne's Davidson was sent off for two yellow cards in the 93rdminute and there was even time to bring Cope on for Barron before the final whistle.
