Win City (2 - 1) Hamworthy Utd

on Mon 15 Dec

Without two key players, Warren Bentley up front and Scott Sampson at the back, the re-orgainsed Winchester City squad had to work hard to take the points from a well organised Hamwothy side on Saturday 6th December 2014.

Hamworthy started well and it took City some time to get their footballing game going but in the 15th minute it was Winchester's ex-goalkeepe who ironically created the opening they were seeking. He failed to clear and the ball fell to Mike McEnery who beat him with a cross shot that went in off the post.

The Visitors played the long ball which suited City and 'keeper Gareth Barfoott was not too troubled as his defence dealt with the attacks.

City dominated play and just before half time went further ahead from a Chris Mason free kick which Geoff Dunn, unmarked on the edge of the box, headed home.

The second half saw an almost immediate turnaround in the match. Hamworthy appealed for a penalty but were awarded a corner which Dan Blackburn headed past Barfoot (52nd minute).

Not to be outdone City stepped up the pressure and Zack Glasspool went close after a Hamworthy defender and 'keeper made a mess of a clearance.

Stewart Green created another chance for Glasspool but the 'keeper dived well to keep the ball out which went straight to Dan Cadete, making his debut, but he missed an open goal.

At the other end Barfoot pushed a header away only for it to fall well for Hamworthy but their forward in turn missed a sitter.

Green and Cadete interchanged well for City and the Hamworthy 'keeper made a good save from Glasspool.

City: Gareth Barfoot, Ryan Holloway, Dominic Cope, Stuart Green, Luke Dempsey, Adam Tomasso, Geoff Dunn, Chris Mason, Zac Glasspool, Mike McEnery, Adam Roberts, Micky Hubbard, Ben Stanbrook, Josh Green, Dan Cadete and Liam Robinson
