Brockenhurst (3 - 0 ) Winchester City
Winchester City received a wake-up call from Brockenhurst at Grigg Lane on Wednesday 22nd October when they failed to get their passing game going owing to Brock 's tactics of crowding and double marking the players on the ball. City failed to find a way down the flanks and Zach Glasspool played a very lonely game up front with little support.
At the back, the game was City's worst all season with no-one really able to steady the ship.
The match started well with City on the attack and winning the first corner. In another move Geoff Dunn worked his way into the box and crossed but there was no City player able to connect.
At the other end 'keeper Jason Collins was soon called into play making a steady one handed save.
Brockenhurst took the lead in the 24th minute when ex-City player Danny Cox was left unmarked at the far post and he headed home a cross. From then on matters went from bad to worse when Paul Tickle converted a cross in the 27th minute to put Brockenhurst two-up.
Just before half time they also hit the City bar but luckily the rebound was scrambled clear.
Glasspool got in his only direct shot of the game early in the second half, he turned well in the box but the 'keeper made a good save. As City pressed Dominic Cope put a header just over the bar from a Glasspool free kick.
With the team not making any significant progress the City managerial duo made two changes in the 55th minute. Liam Green and Dunn were replaced by Chris Manning and Charlie Smeeton making his season's debut after transferring from Newport.
Smeeton certainly made a difference with some deep runs into the box and he had a shot turned just wide after a good build-up.
With City pressing forward, they were caught on the break in the 68th minute when Paul Tickle looked to have put in a cross but the ball beat everyone including the goalkeeper for Brockenhurst's third gaol.
A last desperate change for City came in the 75th minute Mike McEnery came off to be replaced by Adam Roberts. He managed to put in a few flanking runs and crosses but it was too late to save City's blushes.
After the match the Managers Tim Cole and Danny Robinson resigned from their posts, completing a miserable night for the Club and their supporters.
