Blackfield and Langley 0 Winchester City 1
City left it very late but nevertheless managed to take the points in a tricky away match to one of their championship rivals on Saturday 28th February 2015. Neither side in this vital match managed to dominate the other and as a spectacle it was rather disappointing.
The first half was not very impressive as both sides struggled to find their form and early on City had a mighty let-off when 'keeper Gareth Barfoot sliced a clearance which fell nicely for Blackfield's Edgar Zanin who tried to lob into the empty net but he went wide.
City had another piece of luck when Joe Byrne side-footed passed the City post before Winchester made a reply with Warren Bentley shooting straight at their 'keeper, Scott O'Rourke.
Neither side created any worthwhile chances in the first half expect for a golden chance that fell the Zack Glasspool who was put through by a Bentley header and with only the 'keeper to beat he shaved the outside of the post.
City obviously had a good sort out in the changing room at half time and came out fighting in the second. Micky Hubbard crossed and Bentley just failed to get a foot to the ball to turn it home.
Blackfield, however, came back and for a period the City defence was under some pressure but they played as a unit and never really gave Blackfield the openings they were looking for.
Manager Paul Masters brought Geoff Dunn off in the 65th minute as he was still recovering from his injury and was not fully fit, to be replaced Danilo Cadete. He made an immediate impression dropping a corner at Bentley's feet but he was unable to get a shot in.
Gradually City managed create some chances, Glasspool shot just wide and O'Rourke did well to deflect a strong, close range shot from Cadete but Blackfield came back with chances falling to Danny Young and Dan Cann but good goalkeeping and defending pulled City through.
City made their last change in 82nd minute when Liam Robinson came on for Adam Roberts and within seconds the move paid off. Robinson teed up the ball with his first touch and slammed it home with his second, for the winner. This was obviously and inspired substitution or a lucky one!
